Hello! My name is Miya.
I have been a host family in Saitama Prefecture.
So far, I have accepted people from Vietnam, Australia, Poland, and USA.
Below are what I felt through my hosting and the comments of our guests after the homestay.
Please take a look if you like.
Most guests can hardly speak Japanese at first. However, everyone will raise their Japanese level at an amazing speed. Everyone is more interested in talking with me and my family and enjoying communication rather than studying in the text. Our topics are: the events of the day, each other's culture, family and lovers. Also, we enjoy conversation in various situations such as food, shopping and traveling.
By spending a week and a month together and having conversation every day, they learn living Japanese and became enjoying conversation more and more.
In my lesson, I want not only to teach Japanese grammar and language, but also to have conversations with you, taking care of what you want to convey to others.
For those who are wondering what kind of topic to talk:
Just tell me anything you want to talk to me. Simple words can be communicated enough.
One of the important thing of learning live and natural Japanese is to speak Japanese every day and make it a daily habit.
One idea to make this habit is that when you decide the topic, let's fix the appropriate time of lesson depending on the topic. For example, if you want to talk about what you did or felt every day, appropriate lesson time will be the time just before you go to bed. Or time after dinner would be a good time to talk about Japanese food you ate or cooked.
I am sure this will improve your Japanese just as my guests did.
You will make Japanese friends, no hesitation to talk with people you meet while traveling, and you will be able to enjoy Japanese communication more and more.
Your improvement of Japanese and you happy life in Japan are great pleasure of mine, too.
Let's enjoy our lesson, feeling like doing homestay, not as a student and teacher.
I hope you relax and enjoy your Japanese learning better than ever.
I'm really looking forward to hearing from you.
Impressions from homestay guests
~ From a guest from Australia ~
This has been one of the most memorable experiences in my life, staying in Tokyo for 2 weeks on exchange to study at Meiji University. I was scared as first since my Japanese skills were very limited, and I knew no one when I came, but my homestay family was welcoming me with open arms. They are very friendly and caring, always making sure that I had a great time in Tokyo.
I usually spent my days having breakfast with Miya-san and everyone, came home for dinner and enjoyed the evening with the family. Every meal was exciting as we discussed a lot on so many topics, and the food was wonderful. Sometimes I got to have fun with the children as we played games or simply practice Japanese and English. I felt as if I was home, that I was part of Miya-san’s family, being the big brother in the house, having fun with my family and living my life as a Japanese student.
At first,I was very worried about the differences in culture, lifestyle and communication that I might embarrass myself or even offend anyone. However,Miya-san and everyone was so lovely and understanding that I was comfortable talking and expressing my thoughts even in broken Japanese sentences. My lack of Japanese did not stop them from listening and trying to understand me,and in fact they helped me learn so much about the language and culture. With the help of body language,my little knowledge of Japanese,we communicated and could still understand each other, which was really fun.
Miya-san was not only my homestay mother but she was also like a friend,a teacher and a guide to me. She helped me a lot in my speaking skills, how to pronounce words, how to use different words in different contexts. The longer I stayed, the more I learned and understood about Japan, the culture, the lifestyle, about their family and other customs. She also provided awesome places and recommendations for me to explore in Tokyo, such as cake shops and restaurants in the neighbourhood and shopping places in Ikebukuro. She was very kind and asked me how my day was when I came home. She helped organise my room as well, and showed me how things were done when I wanted to learn. We also talked and share our thoughts and experience on life and culture, how different it was for me when living in Japan. I felt so grateful for everything she had done for me,it made me feel like I was in an anime and I would be her son trying to survive my days in Tokyo.
Even after the trip,we still stay in touch with each other and catch up with each other once in a while. Thanks to the experience and thanks to Miya-san’s family,I get to love Japan more and hope to come back to see more, learn more and live more.

The 4 months I spent with Miya and her family for my homestay was the best cultural immersion I could ask for. Spending time with the kids helped my language improve much quicker because in terms of Japanese ability, they are my 先輩. I can go on and on about how wonderful Miya is,and how much I want to go back and speak to her and spend time with her family and friends, but I am here just to write about my homestay experience with Miya.
To wrap things up,I sincerely rate my experience 10/10,and if given the opportunity,I would definitely go back and do it one more time. On a side note, she is just a really cool person! She likes to surf and loves the sea,and she is also a phenomenal cook. I could eat her food every hour of the day.
