3 Simple Tips to Improve Your Japanese Do you want to improve your Japanese and feel more confident using it?

Learning vocabulary and grammar is important, but using what you learn is just as important. Here are three study methods you can start using today!

1. Keep a Japanese diary Try writing just 3–5 sentences in Japanese every day. For example: “Yesterday, I went to school. I had a great time.” Writing a diary helps you practice using the vocabulary you already know. You may also notice that you don't know how to express certain feelings or actions. This is a great opportunity to learn new verbs, adjectives, and natural expressions.

2. Create a mistake notebook Do you correct your answers and then move on to the next exercise? Instead of simply checking the correct answer, keep a notebook of your mistakes. Your mistakes show you exactly what you need to review. For each mistake, write down these four things: The original questionYour incorrect answerThe correct answerWhy your answer was incorrectFor example, if you write “きのう、がっこうに いきます” (Yesterday, I go to school), you can note that “きのう” means “yesterday,” so you need the past tense: “いきました” (went). Review your notebook a week later and try answering the questions again without looking at the answers. This helps you check whether you really understand the grammar.

3. Use the words you learn Whenever you learn a new word, try making your own sentence with it. For example, if you learn “たのしみ” (looking forward to something), you could write: “らいしゅうの りょこうが たのしみです” (I'm looking forward to next week's trip). You are more likely to remember vocabulary when you actively use it instead of just reading or memorizing it. I can help you with these methods in my lessons! In my lessons, I can correct your Japanese diary, help you learn natural expressions, and support your JLPT preparation. Instead of just memorizing the correct answers, let's understand why an answer is correct and why a mistake happened.

Whether you're preparing for JLPT N5 or N1, we can work toward your goals at your own pace. Remember, mistakes are not failures. They are opportunities to improve! Let's take small steps and improve your Japanese together.
